About The Series
In Kibera is a short film series centered around Shining Hope for Communities, a grass roots organization fighting gender inequality and extreme poverty in Nairobi, Kenya. It features stories of life and hope from Kibera, the largest slum in East Africa. Here there is no running water, security, or basic infrastructure.

Kibera is one of the most densely populated places on the planet.”
Shining Hope For Communities
Shining Hope For Communities has grown into the largest community-run organization in the slums of Nairobi, working with thousands of people and improving countless lives. At the heart of the organization is the Kibera School For Girls, the first entirely free school for girls in Kibera. Shining Hope provides these girls with the opportunity to become engines of economic prosperity and social change for their communities.

Connected to the school is the Shining Hope Community Center. It buzzes with activity every day of the week: youth group meetings, football practices & games, gender violence eradication workshops, girls empowerment programming, health and sanitation outreach initiatives, business education and savings groups, and counseling and support groups.
The Future of Shining Hope
This movement is just getting started. Shining Hope is expanding their programs every day, and spreading to neighboring slums throughout Nairobi. Share their story and help spread hope.
